  1. What is the schools position on the levy when people are asking why are the adminstration takeing pay increases. Shouldn't concessions start from the top and lead by example.

  2. Don't ask us for more money we don't have it. The salaries that the administration makes is more then I can make it 3 years! We can't pay our taxes as it is and you want us to pay more!! Here is how you can save money!! Turn off the lights at the schools, there is no reason to have them on at 9pm! Your computers are jus fine, no reason to buy new computers the children use the internet to research that updates with the times on it's own no reson to buy new computers for that! Use your volunteers to help teachers with larger classes, there are many people who want to help the schools but don't get calls or go to a volunteer orientation, fill out paper work, are then told you have to have a background check done, but are never contacted to let them know it has been done. Don't pay the administration for work they don't do! Talking on the phone for personal reasons whil parents are waiting is not your job! Yes this has happened...I went to the Primary school to help and I had to wait to be helped by the receptionist until she decided she was done with a personal phone call! THIS IS NOT HER JOB! she should not get paid for it!!!

  3. I am very dismayed to see the destruction of the Vote Yes signs in town. It is certainly OK to have a difference of opinion but it is not OK to be destructive and disrespectful. We need a good educational system to educate our children how to handle differences of opinions in an appropriate manner. For me, you just helped me decide to Vote Yes. Thanks.

  4. Wonderful article ... valid points made about the history of levy votes in this community. If we don't pass this now, when will we? Enough of the "wait and see" stuff, take action now people and pass this levy. Tough times, tough choices ... not so tough for me. My kids are my first priority and their future is of high concern ... I will find a way to pay for this levy. Other comments here seem to assume that our administrators make astronomical amounts of money. Sure it's triple digits ... but so are the salaries of most superintendents and ours is not out of line with others in our area or of comparable sized districts. Dr. Henton has a difficult job with a huge amount of responsibility ... I commend her for taking that responsibility on. My goodness, she's in charge of the education of our future. Would it be nice to see a reconciliation of sorts and see some freezes ... I guess so, but it's not a break it or make it point for me. Besides people, administrative cuts alone will not fix all the financial issues in this district. Other actions will need to be taken as well and that action is voting Yes. We can find a way to pay for this levy ... I challenge us all to do so for your children, grandchildren, and nieghbors children. To the staff of North Branch Area Schools ... keep on pluggin' away, you are awesome!

  5. I will vote NO for this levy. Sure my kids are number 1, but they need a place to live, without that they can't go to school. Make me pay higher taxes and I will have to move!! I do have to say that the behavior of destroying a sign is wrong, but come on don't blame a childs education on that, that kind of behavior should be dealt with in the home not the school. Make parents responsible for the children's behavior. Make the parents take part in the child's education we can't leave it all up to the schools. As a parent I feel it is our responsibility to play an important role not just hand them to the school and say do it! My kids are learning in the NB district just fine the way it is, I help them at home too, that is my responsibility!! You can't put it all on the school it's a two way street. However don't make me pay higher taxes because the district doesn't know how to manage their money when they do have it. They had a levy of this type go through in the past and they didn't use the funds how they should have, why should I let them throw more money out the window!?

  6. The last comment read "My kids are learning in the NB district just fine the way it is." That's great! It is wonderful to know that the district is doing so well with limited resources. But "the way it is" will change rapidly over the next few years without a levy. In five years "the way it is" will be drastically less than it is now. Voting "yes" is about maintaining "the way it is," for as long as we can.

  7. I VOTE YES! My parents paid taxes to help pay for my high school education, why wouldn't I do the same thing for my own children. These children will be taking care of us one day, they need to have a good education to be able to make those decisions for us as we age. I am willing to give up pizza delivery one night a month to pay my portion of the taxes....

  8. My finances are stretched! BUT I vote YES! It will cost me far more in the future if this levy does not pass! What I will have to pay for additional fees will far surpass what I will pay on my taxes. I have always been impressed with what the teachers in this district have been able to do for me and my children. They have always gone above and beyond their call of duty, and rarely has this been acknowledged by the majority of parents. The parent that wrote about how they help their child at home gets my applause. However, he or she needs to realize that not all parents have the same insite into what their job as a parent is in terms of their child's education. I had a neighbor tell me a couple weeks ago that schoolwork is for school and chores are for home, there should be no homework. I also work with several parents who don't know HOW to help their child because of their own minimal education. Having fewer teachers with more students in the classroom will affect my children, and I will still continue to help them at home. What a shame it is that not all students will get that same level of support. They only get one chance at getting their education, and I for one want it to be the best learning experience possible. Thank you to the teachers that help my children out every day!
